Over 28 Billionaires In Africa

The African continent has produced many wealthy people; with over 28 known billionaires. According the Forbes list, Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote remains the richest person in Africa and the richest black man in the world.

British society magazine Tatler in its December 2013 issue features an article on Nigeria’s growing “young moneyed” set that seems to have gotten a lot of people talking.

The feature highlights the likes of Florence “Cuppy” Otedola, Eku & Kessie Edewor, Misan Harriman, Rotimi Alakija, Chin Okeke, Richard Vedelago, Adora Mba and Kola Karim whom the magazine describes as Nigerians with billionaire parents, boarding school credentials and private jet passes.

According to Tatler, they are the new set of Nigerians makings things happen – especially in a country (the United Kingdom) where Nigerians are the “sixth-highest foreign spenders”.

The article has reportedly gotten many of those featured and their families upset with its judgmental tone.

Africa's Richest Man - Aliko Dangote

Aliko Dangote is Africa's richest man by far, and he's not slowing down. This year alone, his Dangote Cement, Africa's largest cement producer, launched new cement plants in Cameroon, Ethiopia, Zambia and Tanzania. In total, Dangote Cement now produces more than 30 million metric tonnes each year, with a plan to double capacity by 2018. Dangote owns more than 90% of publicly-traded Dangote Cement through a holding company. Other companies in the Dangote Group - which is active in 15 African countries - include publicly-traded salt, sugar and flour manufacturing companies.
